NYCSOM just sent its largest delegation to Camp Hope for Kids for our Summer 2017 training session. We sent over 50 college-age leaders and future leaders to participate. Members of the Hope for Kids Leadership Academy and leaders from the American Commonwealth Region joined us for this event. This was our fourth straight year to take students to the Ministry Training Academy at Camp Hope. We believe it was our best year so far.
Ed Anton, Brett Miller, Ilana Booker, Steve Kinnard, and Rob Novack taught a course on church building. There were many exceptional classes in this course. For example, how to discover and train leaders, how men and women work together, the master plan of evangelism, the master plan of discipling, and an amazing lesson by Ed Anton on corporate repentance.
The second class was Expository Preaching. Expository preaching is when the preacher strives to draw the sermon directly from the text and allow the Bible to speak through him. The highlight of these classes was the preaching lab where students delivered a portion of their own sermon and received feedback on the lesson.
Thanks to the Hope Camp for Kids who showed us great hospitality. The gymnasium was transformed into a working classroom with tables and chairs. The weather was hot, hot, hot, so thanks for the freeze pops served every afternoon. Also, the meals were delicious. Special thanks to Rob Novack who coordinated the entire event for the School of Missions. Again, it was our best session ever.
We look forward to the rest of the summer as the Ministry Training Academy continues to meet on Fridays to study Old Testament Survey and for Campus Ministry Training. There is also an MTA session meeting this summer on Sundays to train in the area of youth and family ministry.
